Today’s bible study is entitled “Why did God create man?” Simply, put why did God create us? What was his plan in creating us humans?
This Bible study is so vital because once you understand why God created you, you can begin to start living your life with purpose and meaning. You can start living your life successfully. You can begin to start living your life the way God intended your life to be lived. Dear reader God created you for a purpose, he wants you to understand why he created you in so that he can get the glory out of your life. This is what this whole bible study is about. Today you will learn exactly why God created you.
God created man for four main reasons.
Chapter 1. God created man to glorify him, to worship him, and to serve him.
You were made for this very purpose.
Ecclesiastes 12:13
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
Deuteronomy 10:12-13
Fear the LORD
And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
Let’s look at a few people in the bible who did great things for God for His name’s sake and for His glory and let’s see how they describe themselves.
*Listen to what David said of himself.
1 Chronicles 17:16-20
David's Prayer
16 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: "Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, O God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men, O LORD God.
18 "What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant, 19 O LORD. For the sake of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.
20 "There is no one like you, O LORD, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
*Listen to what the Apostle Paul said of himself.
Romans 1:1
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God
Titus 1:1
Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness—
1 Timothy 1:15
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
*Listen to what Peter said of himself.
2 Peter 1:1
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
*Listen to what John said of himself.
Revelation 1:1
[ Prologue ] The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,
*Now what about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Listen to what Jesus Christ said of himself.
Mark 10:45
45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Also read (Romans 1:1) (Philippians 1:1) (James 1:1) (Jude 1:1).
Now the question to ask is how do you view yourself in the sight of God? Is it one of a humble servant like these men of God? Or is it one of an arrogant person who acts as If he or she truly deserves salvation? We as born - again believers in Christ Jesus should view ourselves as humble children of God, as humble servants following the Lord Jesus Christ. We are the children of God who serve Jesus. Our lives belong to him, Our lives are for his glory. We live for him and not for ourselves. Because of the great sacrifice Jesus paid for us at the cross, because He and He alone saves us from spending an eternity in hell, He deserves all our praise, worship, and adoration now and forevermore.
Dear child of God who believes in Jesus, I want you to think of yourself as a glorifier because that’s what you are. You are to glorify Jesus Christ with your life, gifts, talents, and spiritual gifts. (Psalm 22:22-23) (Psalm 50:14-15) (Psalm 86:8-13) (Matthew 5:16) (Romans 15:6, 9) (1 Corinthians 6:20) (1 Peter 4:16) (Revelation 15:4).
Dear child of God who believes in Jesus, I want you to think of yourself as a worshiper because that’s what you are. You are to worship God through his Son the Lord Jesus Christ in spirit and in truth (John 4:24) (John 14:6) (Psalm 150:6).
Dear child of God who believe in Jesus, I want you to think of yourself as a servant because that’s what you are. God created us to be servants of him. Think of yourself like this, wherever I go how can I serve God in this matter or situation? How can I please him? How can I bring glory to his name by doing this? Once again remember we are first children of God through and only through our faith in Christ (John 1:12) (1 John 5:1-5) but at the same time we still are servants and ambassadors of Him the Lord Jesus Christ as well. Read (Matthew 25:20-21) (2 Corinthians 5:20) (Acts 16:17) (Romans 1:1) (Philippians 1:1) (Colossians 1:23) (1 Corinthians 3:5-6) (Titus 1:1).
Revelation 22:3
No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.
Matthew 25:21
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
It is my prayer that this may be said of all of us. I pray that the Lord Jesus may say to us all well done, well done thou good and faithful servant. Keyword servant. God didn’t say well done thou good and faithful bishop, He didn’t say well done thou good and faithful prophet, He didn’t say well done thou good and faithful anointed one, He said well done, well done thou good and faithful servant. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ these glorious words will be said of you. So, in conclusion, you are a created being who was created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27) to serve Him (God) through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:17) (John 14:6).
Chapter 2. God created man to have an intimate personal unfathomable relationship with him, one that would last forever.
You were made for this very purpose.
Once you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, God himself will come to live within you and will be with you forever. God knew you before you were even in your mother’s womb because He is God who knows all things about all things. (Psalm 139:13). He had then and still has now a great plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). As unbelievable as it sounds God desires to walk, dine, and dwell with you forever (Revelation 21:1-4). God created you to know him, to love him, to serve him, to worship and glorify him, to enjoy him and to walk with him. You are a unique creation of God created by the God of the universe. No other creation of God is like us human beings. We are distinct because God himself sovereignly created us this way. We as human beings are the only creation in all of existence created in God’s own image and likeness. The bible declares that one day in the new heavens and in the new earth God himself will live with us at this physical, literal, and visible place. For example, we cannot see God right now physically, and visibly on this earth. But one day in the future after we receive our new glorified bodies this will no longer be the case. In the future in the new heavens and the new earth we shall see God face to face in the person of His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus said if you’ve seen me you’ve seen the Father (John 14:7-11). Why? This is because He (Jesus Christ) is the visible image of the invisible God. Read (Colossians 1:15).
Revelation 21:1-4
The New Jerusalem
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Read (Revelation 21:1-4) (Hebrews 13:5).
Chapter 3. God created man to be conformed to the image of his Son Christ Jesus.
You were made for this very purpose.
When you came to Christ sanctification immediately begins in your life. The moment you came to Christ, God is conforming you to the image of his Son Christ Jesus. He is the potter and you are the clay and he is molding you to Christ likeness (Jeremiah 18:1-6).
Isaiah 64:8
Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Jeremiah 18:1-6
At the Potter's House
1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD : 2 "Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you my message." 3 So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.
Also Read (Romans 8:28-30) (Romans 9:20-21).
Chapter 4. God created man to have dominion, (that is to rule and to reign on the earth).
You were made for this very purpose.
If you are in Christ, you are a king. You are royalty. The bible says that you are a king under the King of kings and that you will rule and reign with Christ when he returns. How incredible is that? Read (Revelation 1:5-6) (Revelation 5:10) (Revelation 20:4, 6) (Genesis 1:26-31). Even though it is true that you will be a king, that you will be royalty that will rule and reign with Christ Jesus, it is imperative for you to know and understand that you will never at any time be worshipped or become God yourself. You are a king under The King of kings, you are a son of God only because of The Only Begotten Son of God. We are always to be submissive and obedient to Christ Jesus regardless of our positions or status in life and this is because of who He is our great God and Savior. Read (Genesis 1) (Genesis 2) (Romans 8:16-18) (Ephesians 1:3) (Titus 2:13).
Genesis 1:26-31
26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
